Lesson I Had to Unlearn: That Others Are Responsible for My Dream

For much of my journey, I held onto a belief that if my mission was meaningful enough, others would step in, support it, and carry it forward with the same urgency that burned inside me. I believed that if people saw the vision, they would help build it. But what I had to unlearn—what I had to come face-to-face with—was the reality that no one is responsible for my dream except me.
The Illusion of Shared Responsibility
When I founded Project Human Inc. (PHInc.), I built it from a place of deep passion. The mission was clear—to bridge the gap in mental health access, advocacy, and education. I believed that because this mission mattered, people would naturally want to be part of it. And many did. But what I learned was that passion alone is not enough to sustain a vision. The responsibility to execute, build, and expand the mission belonged solely to me.
I waited for doors to open, for the “right” team to appear, for someone to step in and take the weight off my shoulders. But waiting led to stagnation. I had to shift my mindset from expecting help to creating opportunities for people to want to invest their time, skills, and resources in something bigger than themselves.
The Weight of Ownership

Realizing that I alone was responsible for my dream didn’t mean I had to do everything alone, but it did mean that I had to lead by example, take full ownership of the work, and show people why this mission was worth fighting for. No one was going to fundraise for me. No one was going to build PHInc. for me. No one was going to take my vision and execute it better than I could. That was my responsibility, and once I truly accepted that, everything changed.
I learned that leadership isn’t about waiting for the right people; it’s about becoming the person who inspires others to join in. It’s about building momentum so strong that people want to be part of the movement—not because they are obligated, but because they are moved to act.

Turning Responsibility into Action
This shift in mindset led to some of the most incredible milestones for PHInc.:
• The Define the Narrative Documentary – Capturing real stories of mental health journeys and the impact of advocacy.
• The Artist Within Podcast – A platform amplifying voices, sharing stories, and providing a space for meaningful conversations about mental health and creativity.
• Mental Health Summit 2026 – A large-scale, immersive experience designed to educate, inform, and celebrate mental health through community engagement.
Each of these initiatives didn’t happen because I waited for others to step up. They happened because I stopped waiting. I built the foundation, I took the risks, I created the path forward—and through that effort, the right people started to show up.
For anyone who has a dream, a vision, or a purpose that feels bigger than themselves—own it. It’s not easy. It will stretch you, challenge you, and test every ounce of your perseverance. But when you accept full responsibility for your dream, you unlock a power that no one can take away from you.
At Project Human Inc., we are here to empower individuals to find their own voice, define their own narrative, and take ownership of their own mental well-being. If you believe in this mission, if you want to be part of something transformative, we invite you to join us.
